Challenge the Norm...Hampton Bans Dreads and Cornrows

Just saw this article link on facebook and of course with a title containing the words university, bans, and dreadlocks I had to go read it.
(Heres the Link)

Okay so wait!

That was literally my first reaction.  I'm seriously hoping this was some bad, horrible prank type deal.  The article was posted on ThankGodImNatural.com in June, but if not.....

So you, an HBCU, are now telling your students to conform to the ideal look "other" people are looking for. An HBCU...Historically Black College/University.....Hampton, really do better.  Lets discuss this.

Credle said the dress, grooming and behavior rules are intended to prepare students for the starched business world.
Umm how about you tell your students to prepare to fight for the position they know the deserve, to break down doors and change the opinion of the "standard".  Be an innovator, motivator....you know a LEADER not a follower.

I truly hope this is a fake article, if not Hampton sounds like you're telling your students to just go with the ideas presented to them and not to challenge the world....Last time I checked back in the 1860s(and earlier) had certain groups not challenged the ideas presented to them there would be no HBCU!  No Hampton...No Howard nothing.  So Hmmmm....

Things to think about

Stay caffeinated folks
